Special Report: Happy Passover "Pesach"
We know from the Bible the story of the Exodus that Passover night was a special night indeed. This was the night that the Angel of Death passed over all Jewish families who applied the blood of the sacrificial (Passover) lamb to the door posts and the lintels of the home. This simple act turned away the wrath and anger of God from the Jews in Egypt. I see the Passover as a prophetic demonstration of what the suffering Messiah would do for His people and the world in the future. The Last Supper demonstrates this in perfect harmony. I Corinthians 11:23-26; the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. The Passover Seder illustrates perfectly what was to come! What was so different about this night? This was the night that would set all Jews in Egypt free. They would live and be set free from the 400 years of slavery that they suffered while in Egypt. God Almighty was getting ready to deliver His people through Moses and Aaron! What a night this must have been. For years and years the Jews dreamed of this day, the day they would be set free. I'm sure some even gave up hope and stopped hoping for deliverance because the days became weeks, the weeks became months and the months became years. Four hundred years is a long time to wait. There are Christians today that have given up hope for the return of Messiah because it has been over 1900 years already. Waiting on God can be very difficult for those of us in this life. Waiting has a way of testing our resolve and faith. Though it can be hard, it can be a great thing, to learn to patiently wait on the Lord. Today the Jews around the world still set a place setting that is reserved for Elijah the Prophet and they tell their kids that Elijah could come knock at the door and tell the household that Messiah has come. Hence, the place setting for him. Every year after Passover everyone says, "next year in Jerusalem." This outlines the hope that all Jews have, when their Messiah comes, they will all meet to worship Him in Jerusalem. This tradition has been observed ever since God through Moses instituted the Passover. The Jews are the only people that the world has tried to persecute out of existence and yet we survive. Not only do we thrive under persecution, but our traditions have remained unchanged for thousands of years! You can say Amen and Praise The Lord along with me because it is a miracle of miracles for sure. So, this night is different because God forgave us our sins when He saw the blood of the innocent lamb who gave up His life for us and through that forgiveness He set us free and led us to the land promised to our forefathers. The blood of the lamb is what cleanses us who believe and leads us to new life... How can we apply the Passover "Pesach" story to us today? For those of us who have accepted the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua for the forgiveness of our sins, the parallels are uncanny. Today, the Christian community has been exiled in the world for 2,000 years. Christians all over the world who place their faith in Yeshua as their Messiah eagerly wait for His return, just as the Jews waited to be delivered from Egypt, so we wait to be delivered from this world and to eternal life with our God. Egypt represented sin and today we are asked to live in a sinful world, but not to be of the world. We are asked to remain separate from the world and to be lights that point the people in this world to the Messiah, Jesus Christ. We take communion to remember the Passover and that through the Jews Messiah Yeshua came into this world. We also remember that our Lord became the Passover Lamb who shed His blood for us who believe. He shed His precious blood for us so that God's wrath would Passover us who have placed our faith in Him, the Passover Lamb of God, and that would then transfer us into eternal life! The parallels are uncanny, aren't they? The Angel of Death passed over the Children of Israel because of the covering of the blood and through that they experienced new life, deliverance. The shed blood of the sinless or the innocent is what was required to have complete and total forgiveness from sin and new life always follows. Yeshua having no sin met the requirement to be the once and for all sacrifice for us all who believe and have faith in Him! In both cases God provided a way of escape for the Jews and for us today. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29), Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, is our Passover Sacrifice! Happy Passover to all of our Jewish friends and happy Resurrection Day to all of our Christian Friends! Here "Many nations shall come and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion the law shall go forth, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. - Mic 4:2 "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy." Psalm 137:5,6
