The Band of Brothers...

Matthew 24:9-10

Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

Are we a band of brothers? The question is an interesting one.  It will make more sense as we progress through this article.

The other night Karlyn and I sat down to do absolutely nothing. When we do nothing, we like to vegetate watching good T.V. We turned to the History Channel and decided to watch the series by Spielberg and Tom Hanks called, "The Band of Brothers."

If you haven't taken the six or seven hours needed to watch it beginning to end - you should. This film is done so well that I think it should be required in all schools from grades 8 - 12. It is graphic, no doubt, but it has to be in order to show what our young men and their families went through during World War II .

The story begins with real time interviews with those vets who actually were depicted in this historical movie. Maybe I should call this a documentary instead of a movie. It was too good and accurate to be labeled a movie. Henceforth, I will refer to this move as a documentary. The documentary takes you through the battles fought from about 1941-1944. There are high - highs and low - lows. Toward the end of the documentary, you see four soldiers walking (patrolling) a farm-like area and then suddenly, they are standing still, their faces turn ash.  They are still; there is smoke raising in front of them and they are in utter shock at what they are seeing. The question is asked, what is this? Reply...I don't know...My GOD. The scene pans away to a soldier running at break neck speed back to camp. He is frantically looking for his commander. When he finds him, he says, “Sir, you have to see what we found.”  The Major says, "What is it?" The private says, "I don't know how to describe it!"

The scene changes to the Major walking up to these gates, large gates and there are people standing behind the gates. The people don't look like people though. They look like the walking dead. Walking, barely however, and they look like barely living skeletons. The camera takes a close up of the Major, he wants to cry out, he wants to cry, he wants to be angry, but, he can't.  He's a Major -- his men are looking to him for strength and support. His men are looking to him to help them make sense of it all. All are now visibly shaken.  Then suddenly, one of the walking dead, one of the Jewish concentration camp prisoners, falls on the neck of one young, but now a man ahead of his time, soldier, gently and so thankfully kisses the young man on one cheek and then the other, and finally on the neck as he weeps uncontrollably. Scene ends. If you have a heart, you’re poured out emotionally and you fight with all that is within you to not scream out, LORD WHY? How could this have happened?

The Colonel, the Major’s boss, orders the people in town, German citizens who said they didn't know about all of this death and killing, who actually said they had no clue of the torture chambers constructed by their Fuehrer, Hitler, to help with the burial of all the bodies. The German people came face to face with the horror they allowed to take place, with the horror of what they turned a blind eye to. Now, they could no longer deny the truth of what they had all allowed, or in some cases, may have participated in. The truth was revealed. It was screamed from the roof tops, that a nation had broken God's heart and slaughtered His people so evilly and hatefully. The Apple of our LORD’S eye had been almost wiped out!

So we have it, the worst humanitarian disaster in human history.

The documentary also revealed a group of men, who when in their young years, some even 17 years old at the time, stuck together and where inseparable. They are so close that they made a bond with each other that they would meet every year to talk and get caught up. They agreed to do this until the last brother died. Hence the name, The Band of Brothers.

The Bible is clear that a time is coming when men and women will once again turn on those who proclaim Christ as Messiah and on the Apple of God's eye, the Jewish people. Yes, mankind will allow yet another humanitarian disaster to occur. We see it already taking shape (Listen to this audio report and read this article). As I am writing this article, the Jews in France, who are being persecuted again, fueled by Anti-Semitism, they are leaving in droves, along with the European Jews, all because we have not learned the lesson in history. We are seeing today the beginnings and frame work of another Holocaust (Read this enlightening article). What will we, we who name the name of Yeshua (Jesus Christ) do? Again I ask, what will we do about this?  Will we just dismiss it as someone else's problem or will we get involved? Part of the problem we are seeing today is because pastors have refused to discuss this issue from their pulpits. I have talked with many pastors about the issue and here's what they tell me. Well, Stephan, you see, this is something we don't feel we should be teaching in the open congregation...let the people sort this out privately. Not taught from the pulpit? My goodness, if not there, then where? Our Lord taught us that we should pray for the peace of Jerusalem:

It is very difficult to pray for someone you do not love or care about. And that is the point, we are to care enough to pray, teach and exhort one another on the issue. One day we will all stand before our Messiah. He will gaze into our eyes and finally our souls. His eyes will pierce through the veneer. He will see into our very spirit. His gaze will divide between bone, marrow and the very division of our spirits.  When He asks you, "What did you do for my people, the apple of my eye,” how will you answer? My prayer is that you will be able to stand tall and while looking intently into HIS eyes of love, majesty and power, answer, “Lord I prayed, I taught and I exhorted those around me to love you and your people!”

Contrary to popular belief today, God is not done with His People, the Jews. In fact, he is just getting started. God isn't done with the Gentiles either.  If He were, you wouldn't be reading this. Therefore, let's get involved and love God's People, pray for them and not allow anyone to promote hatred of the Jews or anyone for that matter. Let us learn from history and do what the German community failed to do, and that was to pretend it didn't exist, only to wake up one dark morning and be confronted with the dead bodies. Only this time, it won't be an Army Major doing the confronting.  It will be THE KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS!

My question to you and especially to those Pastors who read our report:  who have you influenced from the pulpit?  Are we a Band of Brothers? Are we willing to tell the truth and help educate our friends and those in our Churches that hate in all forms can not be tolerated? Join with me and our LORD, our GOD.  Let's form a Band of Brothers. It's not hard at all to do.  We can all pray. Prayer is our most powerful weapon and no weapon has ever, nor ever will, be formed against it!

I'll tell you this, and I am not proud to admit this.  God has been dealing with me about anger and bitterness issues in my own life. Oh, I don't hate any ethnic group, but I did harbor, notice I said, "I did" harbor anger and bitterness in my heart towards a Christian family who hurt my grandson and my family three years ago. I wish I had time here to tell you how God arranged the circumstances so that I would have to deal with this issue within my own heart.  I thank God that He loves me enough to confront me with issues like this in my own life. Yes, it is hard and extremely uncomfortable, but necessary! All hate and bitterness must be dealt with; it can not be excused, it can not be tolerated! We can make the difference.

I leave you with this, this scripture has been in running through my mind for the last 6 weeks:

1st John 4:20-21: If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

Let's band together and stand up for God's People who are once again entering a season of world wide persecution?

I can't think of a better way to get involved in God's plan, than by allowing GOD to use us as part of the fulfillment of HIS WORD! Join me in getting involved!
